This morning my grandpa Gordie Traub passed away in his sleep.  He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s and his health declined quickly in the last month.  Gordie was my last remaining grandparent.

A memory I have of Gordie that always makes me smile is a time that he took my sister and I rollerskating.  I remember being so happy to be rollerskating with my grandpa.  We were having so much fun, but as we were making a big turn around the rink, Gordie got tripped up on his skates and bailed big time.  He was OK, but his comb-over was not. The 8-inch strand of hair that he combed from above his left ear over his forehead until it reached his right ear was greatly disturbed.  As he lay on the ground at the roller rink, the comb-over was sticking straight up in the air, revealing a nice shiny bald head.

It was the first time I was really up-close and personal with the comb-over, and I was pretty fascinated.

Not to worry because all was OK when he reached down on the ground and picked up the comb that had flown out from his button up shirt pocket, and he gracefully combed that long piece of hair back into its proper place.

Because I tend to be really inappropriate and laugh when myself or anyone else falls, I probably laughed at my poor grandpa when he fell.  But I remember he was a really good sport about the whole thing, got right back up, and started skating with us once more.

Gordie was a man of few words.  He loved his family.  He loved his garden. He loved talking about the weather.

Toward the end of his life when he really couldn’t remember who any of us were, his great-grandchildren were still able to put a big smile on his face.

We will miss you grandpa.

Until next time, the mothership is signing off.

There are two heating elements in the toaster ovens. A slide-out crumb tray is included for easy cleaning.

The central point inside a microwave is not necessarily the
    hottest spot.
