Almost every year on our way to Thanksgiving at Grandma and Papa’s house in Southern California, we stop in San Luis Obispo for a couple of nights.  The weather in the Central Coast is almost always a spectacular 70 degrees and sunny in November each time we have gone.

The last couple of months have been emotionally exhausting with a major job change. It was a positive and exciting job change, but lets face it, change is indeed hard like everyone always says.

So at the last minute Chris booked a couple of nights at a hotel right on Avila Beach. It was a luxury staying somewhere for a few days where we did not have to get in our car to go anywhere.  The beach and restaurants were right outside our door.  Sometimes you just need to get out of your house for a little beach therapy.  In our family, it works every time.

The first morning we woke up in Avila we were all out on the beach by 7am, sifting through for shells and watching the crabs scuttle on the sand.  Ava found amazing starfish, one of which was in the process of eating a mussel.  Chris spotted a baby starfish the size of a fingernail and he humbly claims that to be the best find of the trip.

Chris found this baby starfish on the beach. Very cool. We had the kids put their hands and feet in for perspective.

Chris snapped this picture of the kids exploring in the tide pools and accidentally got me doing a handstand in the background. I was really big into practicing my handstands on the beach this day.

I want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and a Happy Hanukkah. This year I am thankful for our health.  In 2013 Chris suffered from a herniated disk in his neck causing him incredible pain all summer.  Then there was the kidney stone episode.  Recently I had surgery on my sinuses.  Luckily the kids have been healthy and adaptable to the ebbs and flows of life.  We are now all healthy and I am very thankful for that.

I will leave you with this festive little video that I hope you like as much as I do.
